Sarah Palin Dumped Through Email: Celebrities Aren’t So Different Than Us

Sarah Palin Dumped Through Email | Bloom Law Office, West New York

You may have heard about ghosting, breadcrumbing, or being a zombie in the world of dating (or maybe you’ve experienced it). And at the Law Offices of Jeffrey M. Bloom, we’ve seen these kinds of moves in a marriage. Recently, Sarah Palin (yes, that Sarah Palin) found out through an email that her husband was planning for a divorce—and the email wasn’t even to her.

The former Alaska governor got an email from a divorce attorney last June, three full months before her husband formally filed for divorce. The formal divorce filing came on her husband’s birthday and one week after their 31st wedding anniversary. She recently shared this detail with James Dobson, the Christian host of “Family Talk.” According to Palin, “I’ll never forget it. It was devastating. I thought I got shot.”

The couple are both 55, and she stresses that even though her husband has filed for divorce, it’s not “‘over’ over.” They are currently in counseling with no further details of how the divorce proceedings will continue, as the judge involved in the case has ordered the divorce documents to be sealed. She says, “Marriage is so extremely important as [a] foundation in our nation. It helps make America that much greater … I’m not to the point of wanting mine to be split.”

According to available court documents, her husband says they are struggling with “incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to live together as husband as wife.” The couple have five children, including minor 11-year-old Trig Paxson Van Palin. Court documents reveal that they are pursuing joint physical and legal custody.

Every Divorce Feels High-Profile

The Palin family might not be considered A-list celebrities, but they’re more in the public eye than a lot of people. However, every divorce is difficult. There are countless factors that can make them more challenging, including being in the spotlight when compared to other couples and families. A lot of assets, children (especially children with special needs), and simply the length of a marriage are all also factors that can make divorces even more complicated than they already are.

We like to read about celebrity divorces because it feels like it can’t happen to us—but it can. In today’s world of being constantly connected, there’s often a big risk of loneliness and losing friends (especially shared friends) when a couple goes through a divorce. It can feel like your personal life is on display because sometimes it is. Sharing news on social media or shared group messages, especially if your spouse is “airing your dirty laundry,” can feel very much like being a celebrity going through a split.

The best thing you can do for you, your future, and your health is to surround yourself with support. This support includes friends and family as well as professionals such as divorce attorneys. There’s no reason to go through this challenging process alone. Taking care of yourself means building a network that will lift you up. Divorce attorneys do much more than help ensure a fast and fair outcome. They’re on your side 100%, completely supporting you and your needs throughout the entire process.

In today’s world of reality stars and over-sharing on social media, it really is like everyone is in the spotlight during a divorce. There are ways to limit this (like bowing out of social media for a while), but ultimately what you need is a solid, skilled divorce attorney who can be by your side and help guide you through the process.

Just like the rest of us, celebrities struggle when marriages begin to dissolve. However, you don’t need to have celebrity status (or their bank accounts) to get the highest quality divorce attorney on your side. The sooner you start working with a professional, the smoother the process becomes.

Todd Palin has remained quiet about the divorce. Every breakup is challenging, but it becomes more so when you’re married, and especially if you’ve been married over three decades. Throw in a minor celebrity status, and it can become seemingly impossible. A quality divorce attorney is your best tactic for a fast, fair divorce. Call the Law Offices of Jeffrey M. Bloom at 855-208-3650 today to schedule your consultation.
